PAPER CUT MAPS
My love for maps started while planning a 6 months travel around the World with our toddler daughter back in 2008. Each map is hand cut with a scalpel using a single sheet of paper. Imagining, drawing and cutting a map can be a very long process as I take great care into researching each city with details and its inhabitants. Once the entire map is sketched out (in reverse!) I use a scalpel to cut out the negative spaces around the drawings and text. The final magic arrives when I turn the sheet to its front to reveal a lace-like intricate map of the city it represents. I have hand cut the maps of Tokyo, Berlin, London, Paris, New York City, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, the map of France and the map of the World.
