MAPS

My love for maps began with a childhood fascination for folded paper maps we used during family road trips and deepened while planning a six-month journey around the world with my toddler. My work uses paper-cut cartography to reveal the stories within maps, weaving connections between memory, identity, and the lived experience of a city. Inspired by the medieval tradition of cartography, when maps illustrated stories instead of giving directions, I celebrate the unique personality of places I lived and explored. Each map begins with in-depth research and detailed sketching, as I immerse myself in the city’s layout, landmarks, and everyday life. Working in reverse on a single sheet of paper, I carefully draw each element before using a scalpel to cut away the negative spaces. The magic happens when the sheet is flipped, revealing a lace-like, intricate map that captures the essence of the place it represents. Maps I’ve designed include: Barcelona • Tokyo • Berlin • London • Paris • New York City • San Francisco • Amsterdam • Copenhagen • France • The World
